Well, the biggest issue that most have with this subject is they are lumping together truly chronic lyme patients (defined as no treatment until late stages have already begun) and the real post treatment issues - those that have ongoing symptoms despite earlier interventions. Im sensitive to this subject because its "my group", the true chronically held infections, that they are assuming I got treatment for, which I did, but not until I had been infected for nearly 40 years. This HAS TO BE something that sets each group apart...just like it would with any other disease. So, they are doung BOTH groups a serious disservice by grouping us together. But, persister bacteria are not a new idea in the Lyme world. That idea was being talked about over 4 or 5 yeara ago. Most lyme patients at that time that had tried treatments but the treatments failed them, believed to have persisters. As far as Wormy Wormser goes, his quote( There's been no evidence that this persister phenomenon has any relevance for animals or humans,” says Gary Wormser, ") only shows his ignorance of science. Many other bacteria have been documented to have persister bacteria....thats why we have terms like "treatment resistant bacteria". Just one single example is needed to show his ignorance..... www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3346619/ "Targeting Persisters for Tuberculosis Control"
