Unorthodox Alternative Therapies Marketed to Treat Lyme Disease
First of all, notice the names of the authors: Paul M. Lantos, Eugene D. Shapiro, Paul G. Auwaerter, Phillip J. Baker, John J. Halperin, Edward McSweegan, and Gary P. Wormser
The names of those that have been actively working to keep the IDSA and CDC in control of not only the information, but the "accepted treatments" for Lyme are:
Paul Auwaerter, Edward McSweegan (big on the EU Lyme issues, and not above personally attacking advocates), and Gary Wormser.
I'm seeing Paul Lantos' name appear more and more in conjunction with Wormser, Autwaeter and McSweegan more and more too. They literally give me the creeps because of the way they are so adamant about stopping progress of any meaningful research in regards to Lyme/chronic Lyme.
But, here is what I have been most offended by in this article (okay, many things, but I have to only pick a few!!!):
"Methods. Internet searches using the Google search engine were performed to identify the websites of clinics and services that marketed nonantimicrobial therapies for Lyme disease."
-Really??? Is that how we now determine the best treatments??? An internet search with Google to websites and clinics??
"We subsequently used the PubMed search engine to identify any scientific studies evaluating such treatments for Lyme disease."
And they know darn good and well that any 'natural' or 'alternative' treatments won't have that kind of study to back it! PubMed is NOT the place to look up natural/alternative treatments!! They won't publish them!!! Not only that, but what do they offer in terms of alternatives?? That it's all in our heads, that we are attention seekers, etc., etc., etc. - nothing more.
And, here are the therapies that they "evaluated" - and while I think some of the are dubious at minimum, I can affirm that many of these therapies are very effective for some:
Oxygen
Hyperbaric oxygen
Hydrogen peroxide
Ozone
Energy and radiation
Ultraviolet light
Photon therapy
