link between IC and LymeSymptoms of Interstitial Cystitis Urinary frequency & urgency Bladder pain with full bladder Pain in perineum & urethra Chronic pelvic pain Vulvar/vaginal pain (female) Pain in testicles (male) Painful sex While some may not have the bacteria that this article addresses, for those that have a 'stubborn' issue with IC, it may be a good idea to get checked for them.

Hi Traveler!-
Thank you for posting this! Very interesting about the connection between IC and Lyme.
I have had issues with my bladder through the years. Usually I have episodes where my bladder feels very full and after I urinate, I still feel like my bladder is not empty. I still feel "fullness" or pressure like I have to still urinate. Probably inflammation.
I do have a lot of issues with lower abdominal pain. I remember when I would go to my GYN for a PAP smear. The doctor would always press on my lower abdomen and I would say out loud "That area is sensitive and hurts." You would think that they would be concerned or say something to me about why it is painful, but they probably thought that I was just over exaggerating. So, after being ignored several times by my doctor about my pain, I never mentioned again about that area being painful.
I also have issues with painful intercourse. I have had issues with this for the last several years. I remember seeing my GYN for my yearly appointment. I said, "intercourse with my husband has been very painful lately". The doctor looked at me and said, " Which way does his penis curve." I thought to my self, You have got to be kidding Me!!! I have had a pain free healthy sex life with my husband for a couple of years before this pain started. What, did my husband's penis get tired of curving to the left and now decided to curve to the right??? LOL!!! This is one of the dumbest things that I have ever heard!! I just stopped talking, because obviously she was too stupid to answer my question.
UGH!!! I could write a book about all the dumb responses that I have heard from doctors!

Bwahahahahaha!!! It's not funny, but that is sooo dumb that it is funny! I think that we should come up with a thread of "DUMB stuff doctors have said to us" - what do you think? LOL!!! Maybe we could get it printed and released as a book then? Ha ha ha!!!!
Well, let me ask you - are you comfortable talking about this on here? If not, just email me. I've gone through that as well. I had a wonderful sex life with my husband until one day there was just too much pain (boy did he ever feel bad! Poor guy) - not one doctor could help me.....until I started seeing my TCM doc, who addressed (believe it or not) - my intestines!! What my issue was that my intestines were cramping continually and so much that intercourse was "adding injury to insult" as far as my body was concerned! If this is a possibility for you, let's talk!
Bartonella is also known to cause IC. Detoxing with using Yogi brand detox tea (regular flavor) has herbs that help detox the kidneys and bladder, and so does cranberry juice. I started using pomagranate -cranberry juice to mix my herbal powders into, and it's been helping more than I thought it would with my IC issues.

Ha Ha HA !!! YES! I am sure that you have also heard a lot of dumb comments from doctors!
I am pretty comfortable about talking about anything!
My husband feels terrible also. He can tell that I am in a lot of pain when we try to have intercourse. I would have to say that about 95% of the time when my husband and I try to have sex it is very painful. It feels like he is stabbing me in the vagina and my cervix. The pain is so intense that my whole body tenses up and my vaginal secretions stop, which makes it even more painful.
We have tried different sexual positions, for hope that it would be less painful. But I am always a little on edge, because one wrong move and we have to stop. My husband is very understanding, but I personally feel terrible that I have let him down with so many things in life.
Oh, my intestines are a wreck!!!! I was diagnosed with "IBS" for several years before I found out that I had Lyme and co's. I would wake up from a deep sleep, in the middle of the night with tears flowing down my face because my abdominal pain was so bad. I was also diagnosed with overgrowth of Candida and leaky gut, prior to my Lyme diagnosis. I have also wondered about my pain due to my GI issues.
I tried Nystatin tablets for several months for my Candida. I even did the horrible Candida diet for 7 weeks straight. I didn't notice any difference for the better. I did read up about Pirouette's post on Candida. I have asked my LLMD and GP (he is Lyme friendly) about the powder Nystatin, but they have no idea about what I am talking about. My LLMD told me to crush the Nystatin tablet up and swish in my mouth with water before swallowing. That was disgusting! And still did nothing for me. I was also taking Nystatin and Diflucan when I was on antibiotics for Lyme and co's.
I have to be careful with consuming any fruit juice, because it is so concentrated and can "feed" the Candida more. Oh, I feel like I am in the Gremlin movie. Don't expose me to bright light, water, or feed after midnight! LOL!!!

Hi DJ!_
Thank you for the gentle hugs! You are always so nice to talk to!
Yes!, I am very lucky to have my husband! He has seen me go through some very scary symptoms through the years. He has seen me go through: blackouts, leg swelling, abdominal swelling (looked like I was very pregnant), seizures, issues with walking, issues with talking, and so many more.
I know that there are days that he probably just wants to scream at me, but he doesn't. I try so hard also to keep positive, but there are days that I have complete meltdowns. On these days, I try do do all my screaming, crying, and swearing in my sauna, while he is at work. So that when he gets home, I am hopefully in a better mood.
He is a very "strong man" mentally to help me through this time in my life. I don't know what I would do without him in my life!
Sending you many (((HUGS!)))

Little Bear - regarding 'sex' - have you been to your Dr. for a pap test lately? and is everything looking normal 'down there'? Because I know someone (not mentioning who) whose estrogen tanked when lyme hit...and things changed down 'there'...along with the lack of intimacy at the same time (use it or lose it) . The Dr. gave this person some suppositories with a really, really low dose of estrogen...and they work topically...because that area has estrogen receptors...or something like that. They do not change your estrogen levels though...so it's not like taking hormone therapy. This person said the dryness also went away.

I agree with Girlie - the first thing to do is to find out just what ALL of your hormones levels are doing. Supplement as needed. This may take a while because regulating hormones is tricky. Considering you have treated for Candida (and I assume you've tested for other yeasts), have you tested for molds? I"m not sure if mold infections can do this - but hey, who knew Lyme would cause it until people like you and me starting posting about it!! Ha ha ha! What I would also suggest, if you still have that kind of intestinal cramping, use heat on your abdomen. Heat relaxes tight, cramping muscles - and that's what our innerds (intestines) are. Muscles. My hubby has seen me refuse to move for days because the pain can be so intense that the vibration of my foot hitting the floor makes the intestinal cramping intensify. Truly miserable when that happens. At that point, I go to very soft, easy to digest foods (even liquids only at times), and strict bed rest for 2 - 4 days. Then I will get up, but sit in my chair all day long, only getting up to use the bathroom. I use a combination of herbs to ease the intestinal cramping, and if you are interested at all, just let me know! I'm like you and will talk about ANYTHING!!!! LOL! So do be careful what you ask!!

Forgot to mention - the Dr. couldn't even do a proper pap smear due to the 'condition' of the area...at the time.
But get this: The 'remedy' is quite expensive - and it's not covered by our insurance. Of course if a man wants Viagra that is covered.
And the estrogen dose is such a tiny amount (micrograms) that it doesn't change your hormone levels in your body.

Hi Traveler!-
Actually, I haven't been tested for other yeasts. I have read threads in the past on HW of other people that had different yeast issues and Not Candida.
Yeah, I got tested for mold recently, just waiting for test results. Hopefully, I will hear back from my doctor soon.
Thank you for the tip about using heat for my abdominal cramps. My abdomen is still sore daily, but not as sore as it was in 2014 when I was constantly waking up in severe pain.
WOW!!! That sounds horrible that just the vibration of your feet hitting the floor intensified your intestinal cramps. YIKES!!!
I have tried very soft food also in the past. Actually, I put all my food into a blender trying to make it easier for my gut to digest.
There are times that I don't eat 3 meals a day. My digestion seems very slow. If I eat 3 times a day, my abdomen gets very sore. I have tried digestive enzymes in the past for couple of months, but I didn't get any relief. I am still currently taking Natural Calm Magnesium. The magnesium helps sometimes.
I have tried smaller meals several times a day, but that didn't help either. If I eat too much throughout the day, I can feel everything getting backed up. It is like all of the food gets stuck in my intestines and the peristalsis isn't working to move it through. I have issues with being unable to pass gas or burp. I can feel my abdomen bloating and cramping from all the gas traveling through my intestines. I can actually feel the trapped gas going back and forth through my intestines. This makes me feel Very uncomfortable!!
Thank you for the suggestions of herbs! I am just trying to figure some other things out first.
"I'm like you and will talk about ANYTHING!!!" LOL!! After having 3 colonoscopies and other GI tests, not much makes me blush anymore!
Thank You!

I have missed talking with you! How are you doing?
Thank you for sharing the story about the lady who's estrogen tanked when she got lyme. That sounds very painful that the doctor couldn't do a proper pap due to the condition.
"But get this: The 'remedy ' is quite expensive- and not covered by insurance" Well, this doesn't surprise me! Is it not covered because it is a hormone?
I personally think ALL my hormones are a mess! LOL!! They have been for years. My last PAP smear was in 2014. I went to my GYN for a yearly exam because I didn't have my period for over 1 year.
When I was a teenager, I had a doctor diagnose me with hypothyroid, low Progesterone, and low adrenals. So, back in my teen years, my body was already struggling with hormone levels. I was given Armour Thyroid, Progesterone cream, and I can't remember what I took for my adrenals. During this time I was dealing with severe fatigue and I was getting my period twice a month. Every other week, I had a regular menstrual cycle. This lasted for several years.
In my 30's I would only get my period 3 or 4 times a year. I would only spot very lightly for one day and that is what I had for a "period". I got tested at least 3 times to see if I was premenopausal, but just like all other lab work I was "normal".
About 3 years ago my doctor tested my hormones. I was hypothyroid, low in Progesterone, and low in Testosterone. I am still currently taking thyroid meds. The Progesterone and Testosterone, I got from a compound pharmacy. I took these for a while, but didn't notice any difference. They were kind of costly to be taking monthly and not noticing any difference.
When I saw my GYN in 2014, she said everything looked good. I did have one PAP smear come back inconclusive in my 20's, but never had any issues after that.
Thank You!

Little Bear, it's possible that you were on a brand of hormones that wasn't working with your body well (I had that for a while too, but found one that my body responded to), and/or you may have been on too low of a dose. Since taking over my own treatments, I've chosen to go with homeopathic supplements and although I'm on a high dose, they are working pretty well. Also, what about your DHEA levels? Have those been tested? "DHEA is a "parent hormone" produced by the adrenal glands near the kidneys and in the liver. In men, DHEA is also secreted by the testes. It is changed in the body to a hormone called androstenedione. Androstenedione is then changed into the major male and female hormones." DHEA I used to deal with the feelings of being 'backed up' just by eating too often. You may not be ready for it yet, as it does do other things, but since I've started using Cistus incanus, my innerds have been behaving a lot better! I had three main areas that would cramp up severely in my intestines - I'm now down to 2 with one of those 2 being not so bad now. This is after about 2 months of using cistus just almost daily (have had to take some breaks due to intestinal herxing). Hops tincture has also helped with this, I believe. LOL! Yes! After 2 live births that were difficult (so "everyone had to come see" as it was a teaching hospital), but I've only had one colonoscopy (that was enough, lol!), and talking to every doctor I saw about my bowel issues - I can't claim to be shy about the subject!! Ha ha ha!!! Awww, Girlie!! I'm so sorry!!!

I am so sorry to hear that you are struggling right now. Sendingg you many (((HUGS!))) I hope that your symptoms get better very soon!
How long have you been taking Mepron?
I also took Mepron in the past. It hit me very hard with severe suicidal thoughts and depression daily. It was terrible.

The Progesterone and Testosterone that I was taking a couple of years ago, I ordered through a compound pharmacy. I never did get a chance to have my hormones tested while taking the meds. Who knows, maybe it was still too low of a dose for my body? Maybe that is why I didn't notice any difference? OR it could be that I was still undiagnosed for Lyme at that time, and that is why it wasn't helping me?
I don't think that I have ever had my DHEA levels tested? I have had so many lab tests throughout the years, I can't even remember. Is having your DHEA level tested different than having an adrenal test?
Thank You!

LittleBear - you can have your DHEA tested with your cortisol, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone - with the 4 point saliva test.
I have been taking the Mepron for 5 months now...still 'feeling' it.
I am on a pulsed protocol - two weeks on and two weeks off...so it's not as bad as it could be if I was taking it daily.
(the first week is only M/W/F and the second week is M-F (5 days)
I am on my Week one now - just finished and I think I've faired better than all the previous times...hoping this is indicative that I'm knocking the bacterial load down.

I looked through my records. In 2014, I got tested for: estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, and cortisol. My doctor must have received my results. The only thing that I know is that I received a letter from the company that did the testing, and my progesterone and testosterone were low at the time. So, I got both of these hormones through a compound pharmacy.
I remember that it was a spit test.
I had this testing done before I knew that I had Lyme.

Thank you for your response!
When I was on Mepron, I took it daily for around 4 months. I personally think that I should have tried the pulsing like what you are doing. Maybe if I would have pulsed, the Mepron wouldn't have been so rough for me.
There are times that I wonder if I should have continued to take Mepron beyond 4 months, but both my husband and I were getting very concerned about my mental health.
I also didn't do so well on A-BAB.
"I am on my week one now- just finished and I think I've faired better than all the previous times" - I also hope that this is a good sign for you and that you are getting rid of that nasty Babesia!!! Please do keep us updated!
Thank You!
