Received my new tonic today.... I am not taking it presently as advised here.....
I have been reading about the herb and noticed several accounts of it disturbing the gut flora of people taking it... Being a recovered c diff person, has anyone heard of this herb creating a situation in the gut that could cause a c diff relapse ? How powerful is cryptolepis ? Are there other herbs that are similar to this but does not create a gut flora inbalance ? Thank you, Scott

Well, unfortunately, any herb with any kind of antibacterial or antiviral activity will have the potential to mess with gut flora, and there are quite a few antibacterial or antiviral herbs that are needed in the treatment of these infections. To avoid the use of all of them means that we simply won't heal - and that goes for treatment with pharma options as well. I haven't seem much on cryptolepsis causing a lot of gut issues though, but I must admit that I haven't been reading a lot on the use of these herbs with someone that has/ has had C. Diff either. So, the best thing is to do all you can to protect your gut flora and keep replenishing it daily with probiotics and prebiotics, and to find a doctor that can help you work through this - if you can find one that knows enough about both conditions. I did find some articles that may be helpful though (I hope!) This one talks about herbs that will heal tough C. Diff infections: Goodbye Lyme - C-diff Here are Buhner's suggestions for healing C. Diff: Buhner, C. Diff and herbs for Lyme Some more suggestions on options that may be helpful: What is Lyme - C. Diff and Lyme I found this article particularly interesting, as they talk about how it's not so much the infection, but the toxins that are created that cause damage, and they have a medication in mind: "By not aiming to kill the pathogen with antibiotics, scientists were able to avoid wiping out sizable numbers of beneficial gut microbes. And while their study was performed in mice, the drug used has already been tested in clinical trials to treat other, unrelated conditions. So the researchers believe it could be moved rapidly into human trials for the treatment of C. difficile, as well. The findings, published online Sept. 23(2015) in Science Translational Medicine, constitute the first-ever demonstration of a small molecule’s ability to disarm C. difficile without incurring the collateral damage caused by antibiotics." “Unlike antibiotics — which are both the front-line treatment for C. difficile infection and, paradoxically, possibly its chief cause — the drug didn’t kill the bacteria,” Bogyo said. Instead, it disabled a toxin C. difficile produces, preventing intestinal damage and inflammation and allowing the gut to be repopulated by healthy bacteria that had been decimated by earlier rounds of antibiotic treatment, as well as by C. difficile-induced intestinal changes." "Bogyo and his associates focused on a compound called ebselen because, in addition to having a strong inhibitory effect, ebselen also has been tested in clinical trials for chemotherapy-related hearing loss and for stroke. Preclinical testing provided evidence that ebselen is safe and tolerable, and it has shown no significant adverse effects in ensuing clinical trials. We figured that a molecule that interfered with the pathogen’s virulence could prevent inflammation and the disruption of colon tissue without making the intestinal environment inhospitable to normal, beneficial bacteria the way antibiotics do." Lyme Disease.org - Disarming C. Diff I know it's not much, but I hope it's enough to help you through!!!

Hi, Thank you for the links !!! One of Buhner's herbs to treat c diff is actually Cryptoleplis, so that was comforting.....I am not taking it yet but wanted to be prepared...I take a probiotic vsl3 on might increase the amount once I start taking the herb, just in case....I also take ground flax seed everyday which is a very good prebiotic...It was the last link in my c diff healing....
Yes it's true , when I was tested for c diff (at least 7 times) they look for the toxins a and b not the spore bacteria...
They are also working on a vaccine which received fast track approval earlier this year and everyone in the c diff community is praying for something to get approved soon. It will be such a relief to battle other infections (like lyme) without the fear of c diff hanging over our heads.... This was a wonderful response to my question...Above and beyond !!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you, Scott

LOL, when I was over on Healingwell.com Lyme forum, I earned the name "Queen of links" I like for others to see where I'm getting my information - that way they aren't just taking my word for it, but the word of the authors of the article/study. Not only that, they are articles that I trust, so that those I share them with can begin to understand what kind of articles to look for, and which authors to trust. I've spent the last 17 years of my life researching this and that for these infections, have learned (for the most part) what authors are truly giving it their best, and which ones are being paid for a particular result of the study or whatever else they have on their agenda - other than the truth. I would encourage you and all those that are hoping for good things from this vaccine get just that! A good thing! But, I caution you all to do your own research as well - maybe it is really just Lyme that they do this to, but I would be cautious anyway. For example, with all the hullabaloo caused over the Lyme vaccine, they never admitted that it gave 30% of those people that got the vaccine treatment resistant arthritis, and many others developed Lyme disease symptoms from the vaccine. That's because they are not acknowledging what the Lyme bacteria really is, what it really does in the body, or that it can become a treatment resistant bacteria - all has been proven, but they (mainly IDSA/CDC) are not accepting the science. And, you are very welcome!!! I'm very happy I could be of help!

Hi Queen of links, lol....
Since Crypolepis is an abx herb, could it cause a candida overgrowth in the digestive system I am sooo nervous about taking it (c diff history), but I have to find something to break through this lyme s.o.b.
I read online tonight that sida acuta is a powerful abx herb, but easier on the gut. Is that true ? The Buhner website likes both herbs.... Head spinning alert !!!
PS: What scared me about Cryp. was a post on HW where someone was taking a high dose of it with another strong herbal abx (forgot the name) and they claimed they had a cdiff relapse....
Thank you, Scott

The key in all of this is the size of the dose. Those with any gut issues need to be careful of high doses. It's better to take more doses than high doses in any given day - but we have to be careful with that as well -herbs are not "harmless" and many people fail to understand that they are really quite potent.
Most of the herbs used in these herbal treatments are antibacterial - otherwise we are only trying to ease symptoms, and that's never been the goal of a Lyme patient. We want to heal! So, we must use some sort of abx, pharma or herbal, unless the person chooses to go with something like the Rife machine or other modality that helps us heal, like BVT (bee venom therapy) which is effective, but you can't start out allergic to bee stings. But, it by passes the abx treatments going through the GI tract.
Injections may work, but they too have been known to give people GI issues (not sure I understand the how of that though!)
So, what you need to concentrate on is keeping Candida low, and not raising your dose high enough to create those complications, and keeping enough good bacteria being 'fed' to your intestines to keep everything in balance. I would encourage you to stay on a "Candida diet" while you are in treatment in order to lower the chance of Candida becoming an issue.
For example on the power of herbs, I had to use poke root instead of red root for a while in my treatments to get my lymph system back on track - but poke root at high doses (anything over 7 drops a day) are toxic and can do a great deal of harm. So, I stuck to low doses and did everything I could to help support my lymph system to detox better. About 8 months later, I moved over to using red root instead and everything was just fine - because I never went to a "toxic" level of the herb. This is so very important!! I almost never recommend using poke root, as you never know who will decide to try to 'push the envelop' and use more than they should - and end up with issues, just like you read online.

I am very intrigued about bvt...Did you ever try it....Where would I buy it ?
I was on a candida diet for over a year, but started drinking beer again this year as well as bread and pasta....oops...
My new tonic has Propolis in it....Does that have similar benefits as Bee Venom ?
I am going to start taking the new tonic...Start with 1 teaspoon a day then increase slowly if I am not having issues....
Thank you, Scott

I don't know a lot about BVT, as I'm allergic to bee stings - and my brother goes into anaphylactic shock from just one bee sting, so I've always been told to be very careful because my allergy could easily progress into what my brother experiences. Last time I got stung on my finger, my hand, arm and shoulder ended up so swollen that it was all stiff and I couldn't move it - and that was even after realizing that I would have issues with swelling, so I buried my whole arm in ice.....and it still got that swollen. So, I have a policy of "just say no" to bee stings. LOl. But, because it was being used by those on healingwell's Lyme forum, and I was still intrigued, I did some reading on it. From what I understand, it's best to locate an apiary (a place that raises bees) that is local to you, so that you can easily source the bees you need. You will need to tell them what you are doing, so that you can get a constant supply of them (the bees die after stinging someone), and some apiaries won't appreciate that, so try to be patient with them. I know that an epi pen is required to be in your possession the entire time you are using this protocol, and it takes about 2 - 3 years for the entire treatment. Some use it as a stand alone treatment and some use it in conjunction with other protocols. I found some more articles (LOL) that I wanted to share, and please be sure to do your own research as well, always double checking the information to be sure you are getting accurate, truthful information so you can make the best informed decision you can make. How to get started with BVTI like this one because it explains the diet and supplements that should be used during this therapy: Apitherapy: Homeopathic BVTA little bit about a Lyme patient that has used BVT: Lyme Warrior: BVTJenna's Lyme Blog: BVT The one thing to remember is that no matter what wonderful, miraculous things are said about any one treatment protocol, it doesn't "usually" work that well for everyone that uses it, and it's not right for everyone to use. So, we have to do our research and make a decision if we believe it's worth trying, and for what purposes.

There are actually quite a few options out there for treating these infections, it's just a matter of finding which ones will work with your body. It's always worth looking into legitimate treatment options!!!
