Ok, so many of us are home bound or frequently home bound. Many of us have families or spouses who are fine and want us to be active participants in their lives. I have three teenagers and a husband who are all very active, but they are realizing more and more that movie or game nights in are as much as I can handle most of the time. That's not so fun for them.
I used to be a very energetic person who created unusual experiences for my family. (We had Hogwarts, Star Wars, and "It's Friday, who doesn't have plans?" parties and pretty regular treasure hunts, we'd leave gifts on neighbors' doorsteps, then ring the doorbell and run away, I'd wear disguises and come read a story to the kids' classes, we'd play laser tag, I'd carry small chickens around in a basket to freak out their friends, we joined the local ren faire as a fairies for a few years because my daughter and one son wanted to be in it, we'd bring the dogs every place we possibly could, etc.) YES. We're weird. Now that I'm unable to do things like that most of the time, except for jumping out at the two youngest in a mask when they get off the bus from time to time, I've been looking for something unusual to give them a thrill. I think I've found it!
During one of my many, many nights of insomnia, I stumbled across this:
www.mysteriouspackage.com/home
It's called the Mysterious Package Company, and it actually creates "experiences" and sends things to your loved one over a period of a few weeks or months. WARNING: Most of the experiences are very expensive, and many are horror. There is a pirate one that I've been told is more family friendly, and I think there's another about time travelers and romance. Anyway, I did the math and realized that these are actually cheaper than spending the money for all of us to go to an escape room or a Haunted House, and I'm hoping that they'll be well worth the money because I actually bought one!
So... they send a bunch of packets to the person, then they send what they call "an artifact," and then they send the reveal letter which tells who sent the experience.
***The best part for me so far has been going onto the forum for people who love this kind of stuff, and if you want to look, there are spoilers for a bunch of the experiences. That way you don't have to spend any money!*** Apparently this has been around for a few years, so there's a ton of information on here. They also have a puzzle subscription, but they may be too difficult for my family. (There are spoilers on there for those too, but I'm not as excited about them as I am the experiences. I'm thinking Lyme brain might not be the best for puzzles!)
Here's the forum for both the experiences and the puzzles which are called Curios and Conundrums. I originally went there just to find out about the experiences though. I wasn't sure if I should spend the money. (Traveler, this is my husband's Christmas present. I bought it before I knew he might get reallocated. We just found out he isn't getting reallocated. Whew! At least we're safe this time!)

I was a lurker there for many weeks, but I finally got up the courage to start asking questions, and the people have all been very nice! They've helped me pick out which things to do and have given me their personal opinions about experiences and the puzzles. I think most of them are pretty intelligent, but a lot of people openly admit that they're terrible at solving puzzles and go on the forum for help. I think that's what made me feel comfortable enough to start asking questions. I'm Alyeska on that forum too. Can you believe it? I'm learning about computer stuff!
The experience I ended up buying is called "Risen!" and it has something to do with an experiment gone wrong and ZOMBIES. (My kids and I are big Walking Dead fans, my husband isn't. Ha!) It starts out with a letter to the recipient claiming some kind of family relationship in Eastern Europe. The first packet has already been shipped and should be arriving this week. I'm so dang excited! I'm really bad at lying, so it's going to be very difficult to try to play dumb when my husband gets this weird letter. I'll be able to be surprised because I really don't know what exactly is in the packet. I think there might be a few puzzles to solve, and that will get the kids involved too. I have a feeling they'll all know I sent it because of the practical jokes I've played and the "authentic" Hogwarts letters and potion bottles that I've made for them over the years, but I'm hoping I can pretend I'm just as confused as they are and that they'll buy into it for a little while. At the very least I can honestly say that I don't know exactly what is coming because that's true.
If any of you you are unable to sleep or move much and are looking for something to amuse you, I highly suggest checking this out.
Oh, and they have lots of other suggestions for this kind of stuff by other companies on there too. There's one called the Haunted Dollhouse that has tons of spoilers and a mystery to solve as well. You actually get to put the dollhouse together. It looks fun, but I think I might be the only person in my family who would be interested in doing it. I'm also not sure my sore fingers could do it right now. (I'm also just cheap and don't want to spend the money!) It would be great for a couple to do together, but there are a lot of puzzles to solve in that one to figure out the answers.
I'm so excited about this for my husband and kids. I know that the surprise element of this will only work one time, but the members of the forum like them so much that they often purchase them for themselves, so I think it will be a hit.
Is it obvious that I'm not herxing anymore and that I actually got a good night's sleep last night? Now, of course, I can't sleep again. My body doesn't know what to do with itself when I actually get a full 8 hours. It's almost 5:00 am, and here I am again, feeling yucky but wide awake.
Anyway, enjoy if you get a moment to look at this stuff. You can have fun just looking at all of the spoilers and comments if you don't feel like spending the money. How the company came up with such a creative idea is astounding to me! I'm hooked on the forum for sure and will probably live vicariously through the other members' experiences.
I hope you are all feeling well and actually getting some sleep.
