I'm so excited - and I may be foolish in posting this too early in the process - but, I believe I have found what my body needs/want!!! Ohhh, Fingers crossed!! LOL! So I haven't really been so good since developing Addison's and hypothyroidism, then getting reinfected (no kidding, huh?). Lots of ups and downs that never really lasted a long time, usually not over a few days to a week of either really good or really bad. Although my perspective may be skewed because of the horrid start to treating these infections that I had (literally a year long herx for those that don't know), I've been extremely grateful for those low points to not last very long this time!! So I started moving away from 'treating the infections' so much - no hitting the infections hard - because herxing really hits my low adrenals horribly. As most of you likely remember, I started using cistus incanus - and found it to be incredibly strong for me, so I stopped it. I tried to restart a few other times, but never lowered the dose quite enough - what I really needed to start out on was only 1/4 of the recommended dose, and only using it once a day. Each dose of the cistus is to be brewed/steeped 3 times, as each steeping releases different constituents of the tea, so I use the first brewing on day one at only 1/4 tsp, then I will reuse the same dose on the next day - but then I allow it to dry and put it away. I know there is still good medicine in those "left overs", but my body just is not ready for that yet. I actually managed to get a message to Buhner himself (YAY!!) through a very dear and kind friend, and he agreed that I should skip the third dose because of how I was responding as well. I was just hanging on as I was going through all of that, but I was hanging on!! I started looking for better ways to support my immune function and this led me to medicinal mushroom mixes. I read as much as my brain would allow me to absorb, and then jumped in. I found a supplier I trusted and bought a small amount - holy herx, Batman!!! Sheesh!! I was soooo irritable that I didn't even want to be around me!!! Okay, so I increase my anti-inflammatories, because I know that works for me when I'm that cranky because of inflammation - particularly brain inflammation. I had to start out on a ridiculously small dose (22 mgs or half of a stevia scoop from Now brands) - but I did it! When that very small amount ran out, I purchased this brand because of the specific strains of medicinal mushrooms that are in it: 14 mushroom blend Next, thanks to my herbal school, I came across a recipe for '4 thieves tincture' made with ACV and then mixed with honey (once an ACV recipe is mixed with vinegar, it's known as an Oxymel). I knew that the 4 thieves blend worked for me some, as I used a 4 thieves EO (thanks to a very special friend that sent me some) to help ease my heel pain that was beyond wicked - felt like I had a railroad spike about 3 inches up into my heel that was there 24/7. So I made some of the 4 thieves tincture, and of course, started at too high of a dose - potent stuff!! The dose is 1 teaspoon, so I thought if I started out with only a few drops, I would be okay - right?? LOL! Yep, wrong!!! I started out with 5 drops, and stuck with it for about 3 days, when I realized this was a loosing battle for me!!! So, oddly enough, I reduced by just ONE drop, and things started settling down!!! Woo hoo!!! I managed to stay on 4 drops, and have even been able to add 1 drop (lol!) in the evenings now. It was at this point that I realized I had hit on an area that I really needed to be supporting better - but I wasn't sure I wanted to actually get back into treating my infections directly, or just continue with treating them indirectly by supporting my body to do the dirty work. I was more stable and had a bit of energy - not enough to feel anything close to normal, but it was better. I still wasn't sleeping well though (for a number of reasons) and I knew that was working against me, especially with trying to still heal my adrenals and thyroid - not to mention the infections. Then I made a tincture with passion vine - not from my school, but I think I like this write up better: Richard Whelan - passion vine (I encourage you to read this!) I have been eating the fruits (all wild harvested, out of my own yard!!) and the fruit alone had been helping some, so I wanted to see how the actual vine would do (yes, it's safe). WOW! It's just what I needed!! So my improvement started as I started the immune supporting herbs, and I also started adding in the nutrients that Buhner says are needed to treat RMSF and Myco (nuts, eggs, motherwort - which is no longer interfering with my thyroid function). I wasn't completely sure I needed those things, but they have made a difference none the less! It's been 2 weeks on these things, not including the passion vine - and my energy and stability is better than it's been in the last 3 years!! Woo hooooo!!! Then, 5 days ago, the passion vine tincture was ready and I added that in - very slowly. WOW! I sleep a good 8 hours now!! Even if I do wake up to make that one or two trips to the bathroom - I go right back to sleep!! This is a major step forward for me! And, my energy and stability is better than ever right now!! But, as I said, this has only been for the last 5 days so I was trying to hold off on saying much - we all know how things change quickly! - but I am just too excited to contain it all any more!! I'm cleaning my house!!! I'm out gathering the last of the garden produce!!! I'm making more herbal tinctures and other products!!! I'm cooking really good dinners again (not just what I can get by with)!! I'm playing with my dogs outside!! I'm running to town with hubby, not saying that I'm not up to it!! So, fingers crossed, this will continue!!!

Thank you, everyone!!!! Lol Randy! I understand!!! It took me a while to get just far enough past being freaked to just give it a (very) cautious try....and I don't have fungal issues!!! Yeah, a year long herx was horrible, and scary!!! It was back in 2007, when I was first diagnosed and then started treatment with Doxy. Back then no one knew about detoxing (except deejavu) and I was no exception. I finally stopped treatment because I had late stage dementia symptoms, had a severe stutter (first time in my life!), passed out randomly (no triggers found), had full body muscle spasms so severe that I literally bounced off of chairs, couches, exam tables or whatever I was sitting/laying on at the time, and seizures, besides all the normal fun we have when herxing. That's when I decided I HAD TO find a different way to heal, and I was only the second herbal protocol user that healing well had at that time. I could never, ever thank deejavu enough for sharing her time, energy, and suggestions with me, as I'm convinced she helped save my life. And why I'm so insistent that detoxing is incredibly important. Thanks for crossing your fingers too DJ!!! Girlie, oh yeah,I've had pain!!! I've had pain throughout all of this, but the last few years my pain is lower, fortunately. At one point, my pain was so severe, oxycodone couldn't touch it, and I couldn't be on my feet for more than 7 minutes without my legs collapsing out from under me. I spent a LOT of time in bed during that time. Fortunately, that has not been the case with my re-infection/relapse. I have pain, but most days it's about a 5 or 6 on a scale of 1 - 10 (with 10 being the worst pain imaginable).

Passing out randomly??? Seriously dude??? That cr*p used to happen to me before treatment. All of a sudden I would get very weak and black out. Water would help the recovery afterwards. Went to er once on a gurny and had a heart monitor for a week and nothing, heart is fine.

Yep, scary stuff!!! Since I was living at home alone, and was having seizures, I couldn't get to my LLMD or the hospital (they wouldn't know what to do with me anyway), so I never went in.
I'm glad we both made it through those times!

Oh it has happen to me at work a few times even they called the ambulance but bounced back before they got there. Yeah those times sucked and were very scary. AT least I could feel them coming on but not stop them. I had times were i would'nt fully pass out and I was almost incapacitated with shallow breathing.

O gosh I get so light headed at times, scary stuff, I had black out seizures a lot, than they stopped, but once in a while they remind me they can still happen. I hate bending my head down, my head gets very dizzy. (hush travler, I know, lol) Now I am with the dogs, I don't bend my head down, I stoop down to put the leash on. Afraid I will end up on a concrete floor! That would NOT be a good thing!

Do you have POTS?
I have that. So when I stand up from sitting...my heart rate goes up between 98 and 120.
Sometimes when I'm doing housework - like vacuuming, and I have to bend down to pick stuff up off the floor...after about half an hour, I do feel a bit strange...a bit fatigued and light-headed.

Trav, I'm so excited for you! Thanks for sharing this great news! You're such an inspiration to us all, and it's so great to learn of the progress you are making.
You have such an indomitable spirit! I know when I'm at my wit's end -- like today, in day 14 of a neuro herx -- I think of all you've been through and the fact that you never, ever give up. Ever! Makes me regroup and buckle down and try to be rational about finding a way forward.
Continue to feel better! Kelly
