My brother is really trying to get me to do this because he’s convinced my father would want me to try it. Dad (an MD) gave each of us kids a book years ago called PRIMAL PANACEA about the amazing curative properties of high doses of vitamin C for so many horrible diseases, and my brother said that it addresses high doses of Vit C for Lyme and that people were having a lot of success with it. I’m already on the supplement, but too much of it causes digestive problems. Apparently getting it through an IV bypasses the entire digestive problem.
There’s actually an MD nearby who can do it, but I wanted to run it by you experts first to see if anyone has any experience with it. I haven’t called yet, so I have no idea of the cost or frequency of treatments.
I assume I’d have to have a pic line. Has anyone had any experience with that? I don’t do real well with needles, but I’m at the point of trying anything right now.
I’m sure it’ll be a few weeks before I can get things managed here to even schedule anything if I do it, but I just wanted your thoughts.
Thanks for any info or opinions!

From what I understand, no PICC is needed, but they do use IV's each time. I use high dose vitamin C, but I use it orally. I've discovered I actually feel better on higher doses. Right now, because of being exposed to everyone's cold and flu during the holiday get togethers, I'm taking 1200 mgs daily (broken into 3 doses) - but I won't have as high of a blood level of Vitamin C as someone that has a Vitamin C IV. The benefit I see by doing it orally, is of course, monetary and convenience - I can do this from home and keep it continuous. I'm not sure that it's enough difference, depending on how it actually helps a person though.
From what I've read, IV. vitamin C is given at 1 gram per kilogram of body weight. This is the amounts used for alternative or complementary medicine for cancer.
I hesitate in sharing any articles about it being used for Lyme, because they usually follow up with "testing revealed she/he was healed from Lyme disease" for chronic Lyme patients - really? Especially since we know that the testing is faulty and we retain enough bacteria in our bodies to always show a response on testing - I'm not sure they actually know what they are talking about.
I would encourage you to do your research to see what others have experienced and find out what you expect from using IV Vitamin C. I honestly don't see it as a "cure all", but I do see it as something that can help some of us.
Best of luck and please do let us know what you decide!!!

Hi alyeska,
Around 1997 (I don't remember the exact year) I was still undiagnosed with chronic lyme and someone I worked with told me about this holistic clinic which I ended up going to. They gave me Vitamin C via IV along with another IV bag which I think was an anti-viral pack. I felt so much better but I was also taking other supplements this clinic gave me so I don't know which made me feel better.
I take Vitamin C orally now as I believe it keeps my immune system strong.
Don't know if that helps or not, Denise

Don't know if that helps or not, Denise Denise, Did this work quickly for you, and did you have any bad side effects? I'm supposed to meet up with a bunch of girlfriends for a long weekend, and I'm not sure I'll be able to keep up with them. We haven't all been together in about 10 years, and I was hoping this could be a "quick fix" for things like this and for family vacations since my kids are still at home for a couple of years. I sure wish I had thought of doing this before now, but my brother was the one who reminded me of it just a few days ago. I don't even expect a "cure" at this point. I just want to have a way to be able to engage in my life a little more, even if it's just temporary every now and then. It's amazing what even a good night's sleep can do. I felt really good today (after days of exhaustion and finally taking Benadryl... here I am inviting early onset dementia in ALONG with Lyme dementia!) and actually took trash and recycling out, went grocery shopping with my son, and cleaned up the kitchen a bit. I kind of feel like a person again for once! Any thoughts on your experience would be greatly appreciated! I haven't gotten the go ahead from my LLMD yet, but I may schedule it anyway if I decide to try it.

I don't think I'd be able to sleep with one unless I get some pretty heavy medication. High amounts of oral Vit C are on my protocol list too, but I just can't take so much because of what it does to my system. I'm basically stranded at home if take that much, and I also have my sleep interrupted... I would have done it last week if I'd known I'd be stuck at home and not sleeping anyway! Lol! The worst is that I can't be stuck in the ozone chamber with that problem, and I usually go three times a week. TMI, I know. There's never a good time to PLAN to be near a bathroom! Lol! I have a number of friends with Crohn's, and my husband had c.diff, so I know that I could have it much worse in that area. Thanks for the info. I don't expect a cure any more. I just want to be able to function once in a while. It was wonderful to have the antibiotics work last year. I just want something like that so I can have a boost, even if it's just temporary. What do you think?

Oh golly, this was about 20 years ago... I do remember walking out after the IV treatments and saying to myself I felt better or I wouldn't have kept going back. I now remember they gave me a Vitamin B shot in my butt before I left and I actually felt a "high" from that shot. IV usually works pretty fast. I know I didn't have any negative side effects as I would have remembered that.
I really don't know what to tell you... I don't think it's a quick fix and at the same I don't think you would feel any worse. Whatever you decide to do I wish you the best!
Also, if you meet with your girlfriends and you don't feel good can you leave and go back home? I am one who always like options or a backup plan...
Denise

What do you think? Oh, boy, do I ever know what you mean about it upsetting your system! With Vitamin C, as well as with magnesium, they are usually done best "to bowel tolerance". In other words, you work your way up in doses until you have very loose stools/watery diarrhea, then back down one dose until it calms back down. Later on, it's usually best to try again, because our body can get used to a higher dose. This ensures that you are getting enough for YOUR body needs, not what someone else has determined your body "should" need. Having been exposed during Christmas to this really super nasty flu going around, I raised my Vitamin C up - and didn't leave the house for a few days! LOL! But, I seem to be unscathed by the flu, so it worked!!! Of course, I'm also taking other anti-virals and supporting my body, detoxing and all that fun stuff still, so that helps too. Yeah, my intestinal issues are bad enough, I feel sorry for those with UC and Crohn's, like your hubby, and certainly understand I was 'lucky'. The boost you get from vitamin IV's will be very temporary, from what I've seen. If there is one, it usually only lasts a few days - maybe some that are really depleted will feel improvements for a week. And that's why I'm doing my best at home with oral supplementation. It's not as effective as IV, but it does work (albeit, slowly! LOL!). And- lastly, that's where I'm at as well - just looking to be functional at a high enough level to enjoy my life - not try to do everything I used to do when I was 20, or 30, or 40..... LOL.
