Hi,
Has anyone experienced itchy skin with Lyme/Co's? Is this a neurological symptom?
One of my worst symptoms is what I call "burning brain." It feels like my scalp/forehead is on fire.
I just had a Bicillin shot two days ago, and today my face is burning and tingling along with my scalp. Both my face and scalp are now itchy and I feel like something is "crawling" on me. There's nothing there, of course.
I've been on the Bicillin for over 2 months, I don't have a rash, and the itching/crawling feel is localized so I highly doubt this is an allergic reaction. Could this be a herx? Can a herx cause itchy skin?
Itchy skin has not been a symptom for me, so I'm curious if others have dealt with it as a symptom and/or seen is as part of a herx with Lyme and/or Bart.
I'm amazed, after a year of treatment, how different symptoms come and go and how each herx can be a very different phenomenon. What an adventure.
Thanks, Kelly

Well, I know for me, itching on my forehead and scalp are a symptom of Bartonella, so it's also there with me when I herx from treating Bart. No rash, just the itching and crawly feeling. Used to really creep me out! LOL!! I also get inflammation along the lines where the different sections of the skull meet up: You said, burning brain - is it your brain or your scalp??? I've had both, so I ask to clarify. Yes, this would be a neurological issue - it's the infection in your nervous system causing this. I don't know enough about Bicillin to know if it's treating Bart?? But it sounds like it might be. If so, this is part of your herxing.

Wow. Someone that's had "burning brain?" Now, I really feel a connection to you! Yes, I would describe this feeling as "burning brain," not scalp, as it it just feels deeper than just the top of my head. Sometimes my forehead and face are burning, too (and palms of my hands, and soles of my feet ...). Interesting what you said about Bartonella being the culprit for you as I haven't begun to treat Bart yet, though it's clinically assumed that I have it. I don't know to what extent Bicillin can impact Bart, but I do think the itching/crawling feeling is part of a herx reaction as today it's much more manageable (and I did a lot to detox). Thanks for sharing your similar experience. It's always helpful to know when these "abnormally normal" Lyme/Co's symptoms have shown up in others. I suppose the neurological issues could be a combination of Lyme and Bart, particularly as I have read that Bart makes Lyme neuro symptoms worse. Did you find your neuro symptoms improved when you were just on Chronic Tonic, or did you need to add the Houtt to really make any progress? Just curious. Thanks, Trav.

You and I really do have a lot of similarities! And I'm so sorry about that! As I can truly say I certainly "feel your pain".
Your assumption that it took both Lyme and Bart treatment to make a lot of difference for me is right! While finally being on a good protocol to treat Lyme, I could easily feel it helping, by 3 months I could see I hadn't made a lot of progress and I still had seriously high levels of pain and other issues. Within weeks of starting Bart treatment though, I could begin to feel real improvements.
For me, all this took a ton of support for my body, along with tins of detoxing. I encourage you to be sure that you do the same for your body. You know I have a preference for herbs, but what's even more important is support for the body and detoxing. And patience. Lol. That's the thing that's in short supply for most of us!
