Thanks for the ideas, Deejavu, Traveler, and Little Bear!
Ok, so I'm loving the coconut oil as a moisturizer. It really does only take a tiny bit! I put some in a small jar and am just keeping it in the bathroom now.
The bentonite clay arrived, and I love it too. I have yet to see much of a difference, but it feels good! It's also food quality, so it's meant to be ingested. I'll have to see what my MD says about that! He's had me taking diatomaceous earth before in capsules and zeolite mixed into a drink. I couldn't drink the zeolite after a while because it tasted so awful, but then I found some in capsules. Would zeolite help with detoxing?
Also, the bentonite clay came in a huge package, so it'll last a really long time.
I asked the MD about milk thistle and holy basil. They won't work for me because I don't tolerate sulfur well. He's going to look into some binders for me to use that will work.
Also, I'm almost positive I have the MTHFR gene mutation. I haven't confirmed that yet, but all signs point to it.
Ok, here's funny story for anyone who wants to read it. You can probably all relate. I finally saw my new family practitioner because our last one retired. It took me about 6 months to get in to see her since I'm a new patient. I'm seriously like a crotchety 85 year old woman when I go to new doctors! I'm a terrible patient! I feel kind of bad, but I just want them to do what I ask and get on with it, especially if they make me wait over an hour past my appointment time. I know what I need, and I don't want to take any time from other patients. I will NOT be getting extra blood tests because I already have the blood work for them. I know a lot about my body and treatments because, as Lyme patients, we've had to learn so much on our own and try so many things. I really think we know so much more about our bodies and treatments than normal people because we've HAD to. All I wanted was a basic physical and for her to listen to my heart and refer me for a heart scan. She had all of my medical history in her paperwork, including the info that I'd just recently had a pap, mammogram, ultrasound with follow up ultrasound in 6 months, and a dental cleaning the day before with x-rays and no cavities. After she did the physical, she asked about my sleep disorders (I have two AND I'm a night owl.) Then she started to try to problem solve. It went like this.
FP: "Thyroid problems." (AGAIN with the thyroid! It's never-ending!)
Me: "Nope."
FP: "You should have your T3 and T4 checked."
Me: "I did. They're fine. I'll have my LLMD fax you my blood work."
FP: "Menopause?"
Me: "Nope."
FP: "We could try Armour bioidentical hormones."
Me: "LLMD says I don't need it. Again, I'll have my LLMD fax you my blood work."
FP: "Antibiotics?"
Me: "Did them for a year, and they went well for over 6 months. I ended up stopping and going on 100 mg fluconazole when I got a major fungal infection."
FP: "You should try naltrexone. So many of my Lyme patients have improvements..."
Me: "Nope. Tried it. It didn't work. I've also done chelation and cut out sugar and most carbs except fruit and potatoes because my blood tests indicate that my body doesn't do well on a paleo/Adkins type diet."
Me: "Also, I'm trying various things to make sure I'm methylating."
FP: "Well, I see that you're already on probiotics, high Vit C, and high Vit D. Those are some more things I'd suggest."
Then she just looked at me and said, "You've been on a very long medical journey." We both just started laughing!
I'm not sure she knew what to do with me. I was very impressed with her, especially for suggesting the naltrexone, probiotics, and Vit C and D. She also suggested LifeExtension high potency optimized folate 5000 mcg which is a high dose L-methyfolate.
I took that info to my LLMD's office the same day since I had an ozone treatment, and they faxed over my last two sets of blood work with my wonderful T3 and T4 to the new FP. I felt so incredibly efficient! Ha! That never happens.
The only thing other than the high dose L-methyfolate that she suggested was that I see an ophthalmologist annually. I just haven't bothered because the only thing that's changed over my entire lifespan is that my eyesight went from 20/15 to 20/20 in the last few years, and I have to wear readers now. I'm still an excellent shot even though the only kind of gun I can lift now is a bb gun. Boy, do I sound country or what? Ha! Oh, and this is funny. The gentian the immediate care doctor prescribed for my fungal ear infection is STILL in there from summer! When the FP looked in my ear, she was like, "What's the purple stuff?" I cannot believe that's still in there! Yuck. I'm afraid to mess with it though, and she said not to worry about it.
My heart sounded fine, but she recommended that I call for an appointment for the heart scan since I'm worried. I'm going to wait until after Christmas.
Are any of you like this with new doctors? I felt kind of bad for being so blunt about everything, but I've heard it all before, and she was just wasting her time. I don't mind waiting for good doctors. If they spend the time with each patient that is needed and do the same with me, I think that's a sign of a thorough doctor. I just don't want anyone to have to wait on me when it's not needed, and I honestly get sick of people not believing me when I tell them my thyroid is fine and that my blood tests prove it. The only ones who really seem to get it are LLMDs. I really, really hope that more doctors get educated on our disease. I'm still incredibly angry that this disease has been shoved under the carpet for so long!
Ok, so it's 1:51 AM on Sunday, so that means I have officially only had one rant for last week. I've just used up my one rant for this week really early I guess.
