Hi, I was very thin before the tick attack (from c diff) and was starting to make progress with unhealthy methods (beer, pizza, lots of pasta)... I cannot tolerate most dairy (mozzerlla cheese is ok, but no ice cream etc...) The problem with that menu are gut issues if I over do it....I was starting to think I have a candida overgrowth in my gut, but before I could do anything about it, I became ill and here I am.... Now, I am trying to eat healthy.... but with my limited diet to begin with I am losing weight I cannot afford to lose (5'7". 120lbs) Anyone out there with gut issues but can still maintain/gain weight ? Would love to know the secret... My herbalist told me to avoid wheat.... Hey I am Italian, that's almost impossible !! Tried quinoa, gut went crazy... Coconut oil seems to be a good idea....I read lactic acid kills candida, but how much are you suppose to eat ? Some say it is good for the heart, others state the opposite...I have some food intolerances, so diet is a hit or miss thing.... Scott

Try protein powders and mix them up with an "alternative" milk (almond or whatever), or if you tolerate cow or goat milk, use that. Try also eating lots of nut butters, the coconut oil is good, as is olive oil, nuts if you can tolerate them, avocados (although this is the wrong time of year for most of us), and other healthy and yet higher fat/protein foods.
Lots and LOTS of snacking on these foods too!! Try to eat lots of very small meals, not just 2 or 3 larger ones (this is easier on the gut as well).
I may have more suggestions later, but that's all my brain will give me for now!

If you find it difficult to get enough healthy fats on their own,( tired of eating spoonfuls of coconut oil & nut butter, etc.) you can go online & look up 'ketogenic fat bombs' . I'm not suggesting you switch to a ketogenic diet , but they are a great way to get in more calories & healthy fats, and you can easily manipulate most of the recipes to include protein powders ( or remove ingredients you don't want in your diet.) They're also super easy to make! ( I rarely bother with recipes anymore) . And I think a lot of them taste really good - makes them very easy to eat

Hi, I eat tons of homemade almond butter everyday....I will begin to add more coconut oil into the diet...and check out your other suggestions as well.....Is walnut butter ok ? I read somewhere the nut often has mold, so it scared us out of making it.... My wife is making coconut bread with buckwheat flour.... I also just bought some manuka honey...I used it topically last year for a fissure issue, but I read it has strong abx qualities....I think that will taste good on the coconut bread.... I am still going to eat pasta, but not as often.... Scott

Coconut makes me herx to hard. Tried many times in my coffee and.....oh heck no lol I think part of the issue is the infections in the gut and the toxins make us less hungry. Im up to 2 meals a day but still no gain. Plus i did the avacado thing for a while and it still did nada. Ive learned the pathogens make us dump proteins and nutes. So if thats the case its a losing battle till pathogen level is lowered. idk

Hi, I am sorry the oil makes you herx....I tried doing a pull with it today and could only swish for maybe 3 minutes, half I swallowed....I don't how anyone can swish for 15 to 20 minutes, unless they just keep replacing it over and over again.... Can you eat almond butter ? You can fresh grind it at certain food stores or if you have a food processor you can make it yourself....I do not like the butter in a jar, there is too much oil added.... We are thinking of adding walnut butter (homemade) to my diet but have hesitated...I read online that walnuts can have a high mold content. Trying to ascertain if that's accurate....That would be a tasty addition to my diet....
Getting back to the almonds - We just toss the almonds into the processor and off we go....Have to scoop it from the sides (it sticks) a couple of times while making it, but it only takes about 15 minutes to make a large containers worth....I was surprised how easy it was... Scott

I swish coconut oil nightly for 10-15min actually. I just put a fat teaspoon in my mouth and swish. Trying fight bart damage with it and heal a small cavity. However if I use herbs for bart in my water pick and clean that area it causes nasty herxing lol uhhhggg I hate almonds or walnuts lol love peanuts, cashews and pistachios. Oh and the woman is allergic to almonds soooo.....

These recipes are AWESOME!!! Thank you, Casa!!!!!

You can use any nut to make nut butter! Try making up some pistachio butter! Or Cashew butter! From what I'm seeing on a search is that most nuts are vulnerable to mold, but according to this site, these are the nuts that have the most potential: Low mold diet "low mold nuts (No peanuts, walnuts, pecans, cashews, brazil nuts, )". Which is a shame, as Brazil nuts have the highest amount of selenium and I need that for my thyroid. Guess I'm happier than ever to not have mold issues!

Hi acres!-
For me this is kinda a hard question. We do know that Lyme and cos can cause weight loss. Lyme loves to attack our hormones. Have you ever had your thyroid tested? I am hypothyroid, but I wonder if for some reason you are Hyperthyroid?
Other things that can cause weight loss: parasites, mold, and viruses.

I know I have to be very careful with what I eat to get that craving satisfied, so often it goes unsatisfied...but with these recipes, I can make things I can eat!!

You're welcome! Glad you like them... The only problem I've noticed is that I sometimes eat too many! I know, I was super excited to find something I could make to eat that not only satisfies nutritional needs, but actually tastes good!

Hi, Had to travel to PA today....7 hour round trip...I held my own... Don't want to jinx myself, but I feel slightly better over the past 24 hours...That flu x10 feeling has decreased.....Other problems remain, but not as intense....
I guess I will avoid the walnut butter...That's ok I am a almond butter fanatic....Today my will power failed me and I grabbed a couple of slices of pizza....No weight loss today !
Just had complete blood work done and the thyroid was normal....
Checked out the fat bombs on google....I gained 10 pounds just reading the recipes...
Picking up some coconut milk and will try some protein powders.... Thanks for all of the suggestions... Scott

Acres, do you know if your T3 and T4 were tested? If you don't see it on your lab results, then it's likely they didn't test those thyroid hormones and only tested for TSH -which actually has very little to do with thyroid function!! TSH stands for Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, and is released by the pituitary gland to stimulate the thyroid. The thought is that if it's being properly stimulated, it's working well - but that's not the case. TSH levels can be perfectly normal as the pituitary gland is functioning well, and yet the thyroid could still be low in T3 or T4. A note about thyroid meds for those using them and still struggling - Synthroid (or other brand names for levothyroxine sodium) only supplies T4 - and that's the 'stored' form of thyroid hormone. T3 is the active hormone that dictates how your thyroid is functioning. Many have good levels of T4, but the body isn't converting it into T3 to actually help the thyroid function. In order to get both T3 and T4 in a thyroid medication, a person needs to be put on a naturally desiccated thyroid medication - like Armour, Nature-Throid, WesThroid, WP-thyroid, and there are a few others. But, most insurance co's don't want to pay for the naturally desiccated thyroid meds, and will try to push a person to use Synthroid instead - even if it means their health will be compromised. I had Blue Cross/Blue Shield for a while, and they wouldn't pay for my Armour thyroid med - even though I have used Synthroid and it simply doesn't help me. If I've left you more confused than ever, here is a great site for thyroid issues, lab values and more: Stop The Thyroid Madness - testing
