Hi, Received my tonic today : #1 Echinacea angutstlflla, bidens formula, teasel root, gingrt root in organic non gmo alcohol and spring water #2 Hawthorne berry and motherwort
Since I am having gut issues are any of these substances hard on the gut ? I am thinking of waiting until tomorrow to begin to see how my gut feels... I know to start slow ( then increase slowly) The herbalist dosing instructions were 1 teaspoon 3 times a day for #1 and 1/2 teaspoon twice a day for #2...I will start slower.... I never mentioned my sensitive gut, although she is aware of the c diff....
Can I mention her name or should I send a message. Want to see if anyone knows her and is on the level.... Thank you, Scott

I start every herb with one drop. If I have absolutely nothing happen, then I may go as high as 5, depending on what it's for.
The Hawthorne and motherwort are supportive herbs, so start them with a bit higher doses - they shouldn't cause much herxing at low doses.
The others, I would start with one drop only, as some have found them to be a bit potent.
Echinacea will enhance the immune function, so this has the potential to kill some of the bacteria and cause a herx.
Bidens pilosa is an herbal antibiotic (abx) and will have the potential to cause a herx as well. The ginger root will help with nausea and with inflammation (some).
Teasel is claimed to be able to pull the Lyme bacteria (spirochetes) out into the bloodstream. I don't know if that's true or not, but if it is, then it too has the potential to cause a herx. The use I'm familiar with on teasel is for arthritic issues though.
I hope that helps!!!

Hi, Started this morning with 1 teaspoon of each ! We will see....My symptoms seem to have leveled off some.... Still feel horrible but it seems to have peaked.... Is that common or I wonder if the astragalus & detox is making a difference.... My c diff symptoms have simmered down as well (off the doxy, and lowered my probiotics).... My personality is to dive into something 200%....I am taking this slow now thanks to everyone here and my wife....
Also take Ibgard (time elapsed peppermint capsules)..... Scott

Well, peppermint is one of my most favored herbs!!! It helps my innerds soo much - as do licorice and white peony root. My biggest issues have been with motility (cramping and bloating too, of course). I used to be like that too - just dive in head first into nearly everything. Boy did I learn a hard lesson when it came to treating with abx for the first time!! I ended up in a severe herx that left me in horribly scary shape. So, I am particularly happy to hear that you lowered some doses and it's helping, along with the detoxing. Keep us posted on how you are doing!

Careful with Teasel. It will pull out Herpes if its in you. I heard it can suck. I am using the first 3 herbs also, along with other herbs in Chronic Tonic and thankfully no herpes. Been using it for almost a year.

Hi, I feel slightly better......
I received an email today from a herbalist I reached out for when a initially felt ill....She told me here suggestion is to start taking cats claw, Japanese knotweed and andrographis... Can these be added to what I am taking now or would that overwhelm my system ? I currently have no herbal side effects.... The Healing Lyme book is a big fan of these herbs as well (I'm sure you know that).... The Vitamin shoppe around here sells jk and cc in capsules....Not sure about the andro.... Has anyone taken these and did they help ?
Traveler, Can I mention the locations where I purchased the herbs ?
Thank you, Scott

Yes, please do let others know where you are getting your supplies!! That's how we can help others find good deal and such on the herbs and things we need/use! You can feel free to include links too, even if they have advertising on them! I know some sites don't allow it if there is advertising to sell that item or other items, but not here. Otherwise there would be very few links we could share! The only caveat I have is that we do need to realize that we should use trusted sources, and to be sure to shop around, and do some research to be sure this is what you need to be using. We all have very unique needs and situations - what I can tolerate may be very different from what another person can tolerate. Otherwise, please, share away!!! I have not taken andrographis (just haven't gotten around to it), but I do know that it can create an allergic reaction for some people, and they are usually skin related (so rashes and such). Do be sure to watch for any reactions when you start andrographis, just to be sure. I have taken cat's claw and Japanese knotweed - a lot actually. I do have to start off on very low doses, but I have to start off on very low doses on most things I take.

The herb tonics I am currently taking are from Woodland Essence...via New York Holistics recommendations. The astragalus I purchased at Vitamin Shoppe....
Are the cat's claw and Japanese knotweed effective in relieving symptons ? I read good things about them, but would like to hear from people that actually used the herbs....
Hi Traveler...Was your experience positive with them ?
Yesterday was my 1st day of the herbal full dosage.....About 10 minutes after I drank them I felt buzzed. Then my symptoms became amplified....After about 2 hours they simmered down.....I am guessing that was a herx ? Scott

Yes, that was a herx that you experienced - detoxing should lower the severity of those symptoms. As for what JK and CC help, here is what Buhner says about them: JK (Japanese Knotweed) - Endothelial protection. Endothelial tissues definition: Endothelial cells form a single cell layer that lines all blood vessels and regulates exchanges between the bloodstream and the surrounding tissues. Signals from endothelial cells organize the growth and development of connective tissue cells that form the surrounding layers of the blood-vessel wall. CC - there are actually several different types of Cat's claw that can be used for these infections, usually it's Uncaria tomentosa which helps with immune remodulation, which just means that it will help rebalance the immune system. Uncaria rhynchophylla is the one you want as part of the treatment for Neuroborreiosis, according to Buhner anyway. When I started using them, they were mixed with other herbs and I used them all together. My body has this lovely thing it likes to do when I start something effective - I herx for three weeks, no matter what I seem to do to detox and start slow, but once that episode is over, I can raise my doses and get on with things. Depending on how high of a bacterial & viral load I have, and how much of a toxin load I have, my herxes can be serious or fairly mild during those first 3 weeks. Once that is over with though, I did find both JK and CC helpful, but I don't know how it felt as I added in each herb, or what it helped with specifically - because I added several herbs together.

Ok...I feel horrible...This past day I have gone steadily down hill......My 3 week scratchy throat is on fire, my chest is killing me and the flu x 10 feeling has returned big time....Can a herx give you a nasty sore throat ? How do I know if this is a herx or am I getting a secondary infection do to my messed up immune system ? I'll have to go back to the doctors and they will say blah blah blah and want to give me abx like it's candy.....Sorry but I am not in a good mood...
Is there a good anti viral herb ?
I wonder if my system could handle oil of oregano ? Would it disrupt the gut flora ? Scott

Scott,
I can't answer your questions because I don't know, but I'm here. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I am will see this soon.
I don't know if you're a praying person, but I'm praying for you right now. I hope knowing that and knowing that I'm here helps you.

Oh yes! Oil of oregano WILL disrupt the gut flora!!! I don't have C diff, but it can really mess with my gut!! I have to be very careful when I use it. The definition of a herx is the worsening of current symptoms or new symptoms while a person is treating with effective killing methods. Sometimes we can herx though just from balancing things back out so we can detox better, or an organ or system works more efficiently. Detoxing is key during these times. Binders can be used to help lower toxin levels more quickly, but do watch out for constipation, as that will work against your detoxing efforts because the toxins will be reabsorbed through the intestinal walls when we are constipated. If you are already herxing, it is never advisable to add in more treatments of any kind or raise the dose of anything (other than detox items)- if anything you need to lower things just a bit. Because you just started a lot of things, I would say look to it being a herx first. And if you really believe you are dealing with the flu or a cold, then go for symptom relief for now - as your body just doesn't need to have more antimicrobials right now. I'm getting ready to have a very busy week - and I'm herxing at low levels from what I'm doing. So, I'm lowering my doses slowly, and detoxing more to help my body get to a more balanced state. The stress of being out most of the day for the next several days always sets off anxiety for me, as I know I have crashed hard from this many times. So, for me, it's all about preparations - making sure that my health care needs will be met while I'm away from home. I drag my pills, my detox tea and more around with me on these days - along with food and lots and lots of water. Quite a pain, but it's how I survive those busy days. So, I'm making allowances for what my body is going through, and being proactive. Here's a map of the flu activity in the US - they update it weekly so you can see how widespread it may be. Flu mapHere in Arkansas, we have "local activity", so I'm careful to wash my hands/use hand sanitizer when I go out and wipe down shopping carts with those wipes that are provided before touching them. I use hand sanitizer before I get into my car too - no need to bring those germs home!!

Scott,
I saw that you were asking about Cat's Claw on here. I do think it helps, but that's what caused me to herx so badly recently. Traveler pointed out to me that samento (which is what I'm using) is part of the Cat's Claw herb. Remember to do what she said and start really slowly, one thing at a time so that you know what's affecting you. That's the only way I knew that I had to take a break from the samento when I had that episode. I'm back to two drops a day now, but I took 4 days off and then started with one last Tuesday.
It's nice to know things are working, so that's positive, but keeping my mental state normal is more important.
I can't stress enough that Traveler knows what she's talking about! I never, ever want to have an episode like that again. I don't mind herxing a bit most days, but that few days I was actually ready to give up. I've never felt like that before, and it's really scary. It's not in my nature to give up. That's what scared me the most.
Don't give up, Scott! You've been through so much already. We are going to see improvement! I know it!
I'm so glad I'm not doing this alone. Thank all of you so much for being here for me.

Thank you Aly....Your support helps and I am so grateful..... Thanks for your prayers - I pray often.... Scott Do be careful and watch for herxing after a full body bath. If you don't get it, wonderful!!!! But, if you do, then you know you are not ready to use them yet, and just stick to the foot baths. You can do them several times a day if you wish - it's all about what your body will tolerate. For the detox tea, I like Yogi brand original flavor detox tea. I already take dandelion root for my liver, so I don't need that one, and the original flavor will help the kidneys detox too. I haven't checked out the other flavors and the herbs used for their medicinal use though, so I'm not saying that it's the only one that's good - it's just the one I chose for me. Thank you for the well wishes!!! I made it!! LOL! Just remember that your body is in a precarious situation, too much of any one thing can tip the scales in a way that is not helpful, which is why we always advocate to go slow and to raise or start with very small doses.

That is VERY, Very good to hear, Acres!! Congratulations!! When I make it through a herx, I swear, we should get an award!!!! It's likely it has a lot to do with the increased detoxing you are doing (at least partly), so do please keep it up!!! Especially during holidays, we need to work extra hard to stick to our treatment and detoxing needs.
