Yesterday we had a post (that is now gone), where a new member was not at all happy that I wouldn't allow just any information posted on a subject. This didn't upset me, but it definitely surprised me.
Let's face it, I'm not the most popular of forums, or forum moderators (thankfully, that was never my goal!!) - instead, what I believe I gained respect for was doing my best to help people by making sure that they got the support they needed, not misinformation, or not disclosing the full truth of whatever a person was facing, even though it may have been tough to hear for some. Let's face it, having these infections - either severely or long term - IS scary and horrifying for many. I know it was for me, and I've came to realize fairly early on that I am far from alone in that fact.
What surprised me was that I figured that if a person found me over here, they would be aware of my "reputation" - or maybe I've just been out of the loop too long and no one knows who I am any longer. That's okay too, as I said, I never set out to be popular, or even have as many "followers" as possible. I have a need to present the truth, and for those that can accept it, I hoped to help them as much as I could. Nothing more, nothing less. I still don't know how I did on that goal, but it will show eventually. I mean not even the spammers seem to have use for me any longer! LOL!!!
So, if you're a person looking for a place to post half truths, or mistruths, please don't bother joining or posting. I'll just remove your posts.
On the other hand, if you are someone who is struggling to find the truth of these things, I would hope that you can find this a good place to ask questions. I won't delete your post if you post something that has only half truths in it, so that we can discuss it to hopefully help you to learn how to find better information - or at least point out WHY it's only half truths.
I keep using the term 'half truths' because that's the very best way to fool people - intentionally or not. An article that just completely denies the truth of chronic Lyme (for example) can easily be spotted and avoided. But, sprinkle in just enough truth, and it becomes much harder, especially if you haven't been doing this kind of thing for a long while.
Now, all of that does not mean whatsoever that I am opposed to learning. I'll learn from anyone, but they need to have reliable sources that I can look up for myself - let's just say my past medical issues have led me to be very skeptical of many things, and I need to see things for myself most of the time. Ask my husband - or better yet, ask any doctor that I see!! LOL! I admire and respect my daughter, who is in the medical field as well, but I even question her sources! But, show me your source of information, and I'll have an open mind when I read it, that much has been true for many years now, ever since I learned how to read medical texts. And, I do have to say, I've learned a TON from others with good sources of information!
This is a free forum, so I can keep it up and going for as long as I like, which may be a while yet, since I still have a trickle of people finding me, wanting my help for this or that.
