Ok, I screwed up ONCE AGAIN and followed the directions on the package instead of reading info on here before trying a new herb. You’d think I would have learned from the Great Samento Herx of 2017/2018, but noooo.... So, I accidentally drank an entire cup of the first cistus brewing today. If I have trouble, should I do extra detox with burbur pinella, apple cider vinegar, or the mix I bought from Kristina? Also, do you have any idea when I’ll know if I’m herxing? I sure hope it’s not tomorrow night. I promised to help kid number 3 write a paper! I read on the package to do a second and third brewing , so I saved the tea in the fridge. If I tolerate this and feel ok tomorrow, how soon do you think I could try a second brewing? Would it then be one teaspoon of it that day? Oh, I hate that I can’t keep this stuff straight. I feel like a child who has to be led by the hand. I wish we could just dose by weight or something. It’s all so complicated sometimes. I’m SO sick of being sick and trying to figure everything out. Thanks in advance for your help.

Oh nooooooo!!! LOL! But I'm glad I'm not alone in this!! When I was brain fogged, I used to have all sorts of trouble 'realizing'/remembering' I'm not a 'normal person' (not that I ever was before ). So, Cistus tea is an odd duck. Each time you brew the leaves, it will pull out different constituents/chemicals from the plant. So, for simplicity's sake, let's say you use 1 tsp of the tea leaves for each dose. So, you take your dose, add hot water and allow to 'brew' for 10 or so minutes, then remove the leaves and drink. That's dose one. I had to stick with only one dose from each helping of leaves for a couple of months without moving on to the second brewing. And, when I started with the 1st dose, I only drank about 1/2 of it. After a couple of months, I was able to tolerate the 2nd brewing, so I would use fresh leaves, brew the first cup - then using the same once brewed leaves, I would make another cup of tea with it, brewing for approx 10 minutes again. I had to stick with only using the 1st and 2nd brewings only for about 4 months. Again, this is because different constituents/chemicals are being pulled out of the leaves with each brewing of the same leaves. I was only able to tolerate the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd brewings for about 2 months, even though I felt great on it. I just got super sick in July with something else (it wasn't from the Cistus tea) and because of being so ill, my intestines haven't really been able to recover very quickly. I'm just now getting back to my baseline, so I haven't restarted it, and won't for a while now. So, if you discover that you took too much, it's binders that will help you the fastest and the most. Any time binders are used though, you must not only be sure to drink plenty of water, but to do other detox methods as well, to help the body recover. If you tolerate this 1st brewing well, consider only using the first brewing (at that same dose) until you find a time that you can herx without it interfering with something important that you need/want to do - in case you do. I have yet to find a listing of what constituents are actually released during each of the brewings, so I'm not sure why it took me so long to tolerate it all - unless it was due to biofilms, and if that's the case, then those with a lot of biofilms may need to be more cautious. I know that feeling!! I felt like I needed to be led around by the hand for years, but it was on everything, not just herbs and such. I couldn't remember people, places, or the names of things I needed. I was fortunate to have someone that loved me enough to understand I was going through something horrid, not that I was going to be that way the rest of my life. That kind of understanding is priceless.

So far so good. I feel a cold coming on, but I think that was happening before I drank the tea. Did you say you had digestive problems with it, herxing, or both?

Ha ha ha! I have digestive troubles with everything!! Literally, any time anything changes with my diet, or supplements, or herbs or stress levels, or pain levels, or not getting enough sleep all give me digestive issues that I must act to calm down. So, don't use me for a guide on that one, please!
But, yes - I did herx quite a bit on it. Mostly with gastro symptoms, so I don't know for sure that others will.
Not helpful, I know!! I'm so sorry!
If you are the only one you know that has a cold right now though, you might want to consider that it could be herxing instead, though. Just some food for thought!
