Hi All!
So, this has been yet another interesting side trip with these infections! Remember back in July, I got really sick? (I did post about it a bit. Well, it's left me with some interesting changes - and so far they seem to be for the better - although I would NOT recommend getting that sick to do this!!! WOW!!
So, whatever it was, I ended up with severe vomiting, nausea (couldn't keep water down for 3 days), severe diarrhea, and of course, cramps in every area....and I thought I knew what intestinal cramping was!! Whew! I did have other symptoms (as my Lyme and company symptoms were raging during this, but seriously took a back seat to this new 'threat'). I ended up losing the intestinal mucosal lining, and that was the most painful part. I had what is known as 'rice water stools', but also passed larger sections of the lining that I could easily see - I mean, there was nothing else in the toilet!
It took me 2 weeks to be recovered enough to even leave the house because I ended up so seriously dehydrated and under nourished (I obviously couldn't keep food down and then had a highly sensitive stomach afterwards). But, about 4 weeks later, I started noticing changes - very small ones at first, like seeming to feel hungry (I haven't felt that in decades, literally), and being able to eat without a TON of nausea. Of course, I dropped about 15 lbs too, which was nice, but again, that was definitely the hard way!!!!
Now, about 6 weeks past "the incident", and I'm now eating up to 4 times a day (okay, two of my 'meals' counts barely as a snack for most people, but I simply couldn't eat and keep it down before!), my intestines are working better than ever (although it did take me nearly 3 weeks to get them to settle back down), and the weight is staying off!
My issue with serious weight gain started when my adrenals and thyroid crashed and I couldn't get any help for a year after that. I gained a LOT more weight than I had realized, as I don't own scales to weigh myself. But, what my doctor at the time and I had finally figured out was that I was one of those people that will gain weight if we don't take in enough calories (yep, I know!). So, struggling to eat anything at all during the day was really making it impossible for me to eat enough to not gain more weight. I feared I was doomed to stay quite heavy the rest of my life!
Now, I can't wait for food!!! LOL! As I said, I don't eat a lot at every 'meal', but I do eat now!!! See, when I don't get enough calories, my body believes it to be in a dire situation, and will 'hold' those calories thinking I will need them for later, because, of course, it's not getting the food it needs.
Anyway, I just thought this was odd enough to 'belong' in this section!!! LOL! Thanks Lyme for messing with my body such that I had trouble even eating decently for most of my life!
Again, what's so odd to me is that by loosing my intestinal mucosal lining, my appetite has returned and my innerds are working again!!
