I just read in an email newletter I receive that the Eclectic School of Herbal Medicine is having a student clinic! This means that the students, when at an appropriate level of learning, will be available for consults at what I assume is a reduced rate.
Disclaimer: While I do receive the newsletter from the Eclectic School of Herbal Medicine, I am in no way affiliated with them, receive any kind of benefit (monetary or otherwise), nor am I associated with them in any way. I just feel that this may be an opportunity that some may wish to know about!! And, because I do follow them, I can say that they seem to be a good, reliable source of information.
Announcement below:

Student Clinic
Are you interested in working on your health, while supporting the training of a new generation of clinical herbalists? Are your finances tight? Sick of the allopathic medical model?
The Eclectic School of Herbal Medicine hosts a student-led sliding scale clinic based in Lowgap, NC. In-person, Skype, and phone consultations are available on Fridays at 10 AM and 2pm EST. If this time doesn’t work for you, we are usually able to accommodate alternate days/times.
Our students are trained in Functional Herbalism – a unique system of herbalism integrating Traditional Western Herbal Medicine, Clinical Nutrition, and Functional Medicine. Functional Herbalism is a systems-based model that honors traditional plant-based care, while recognizing the importance of lifestyle changes and herbal supplements, alongside functional laboratory testing, to address the whole person rather than an isolated set of symptoms or disease.
Our students are equipped to handle many ailments, acute and chronic. Each case is reviewed in-class. The creation of your personalized health plan is guided by ESHM Director Thomas Easley during in class case review.
Logistics:
We offer in-person, skype and phone consultations. Students and staff herbalists see clients on Fridays at 10 am and 2 pm Eastern Standard Time. Other days/times can often be accommodated.
What to Expect:`
You will first need to fill out a completed intake form and sign our consult description. You can send these back through email, regular mail, or fax. When we receive your forms, we will contact you to set up your consultation.
Your initial consultation will last between 1-2 hours. The first session is about information gathering. Students may make initial recommendations, but the full health plan will not be presented until your first follow up. Your first follow-up will be scheduled at the end of your initial consult and is usually one week from that date. During this follow up appointment your herbalists will present your health plan.
Plans are unique to client needs, but you might receive suggestions such as: Changing your diet, begin exercising or change the type of exercise you do, add in stress reduction techniques, change your sleeping habits, and make tea or take herbal supplements 1-4 times a day.
Costs:
We have a two-tier sliding scale fee for our distance consults. In-person consults are free of charge. Fees are determined on the honor system by filling out this form.
We do have a limited number of free consults available for our distance clients. Mel Kasting, our clinic director, is available by phone or email if you have special circumstances that you would like us to consider.
The first tier is for no/low income folks at $5-$20 per consult. The second tier is $20-$100 for folks who do not identify as low income.
Herbal formulas are also sliding scale, at $2-8 per ounce. This includes, tinctures, teas, salves, oils and liniments. Any blood work requested, or supplements suggested will be your fiscal responsibility.
Refills are $10 plus $2 per ounce of formula. This includes shipping and handling.
If you are interested in additional information about our sliding scale or would like to see a cost breakdown sheet for our services, please email the clinic
