We have a wonderful new member, Michele, that has offered to help out with this board! I really look forward to having a wider range of people on here to interact with!
Not everyone on this site will have Lyme - and we will not tolerate anyone trying to 'convince' someone else that they do or don't have something, so let's all remain kind here! The only exception to this will be those that aren't sure of what they are dealing with and are asking for help in discovering this. Some of the best people to talk to sometimes are those that live with the condition!

Hi michele!-
I am so sorry to hear that you are suffering from colitis. Thank You so much for joining this forum to help other people that also suffer with this condition.
Is there a special medication or diet that you have to stick with to help ease your pain?

I take 2 maintenance medications. My doctor said not to eat fried foods. I also am careful with certain vegetables and salad. I believe this disease comes from stress. I've been in remission for two years now.

Welcome Michele. Love your profile pic.
I think it would be an interesting addition to the forum. I have stomach problems off and on. Might find different things to do. I have had ulcers before, that is not fun.
Glad you are in remission!

I have had ulcers before, that is not fun. Glad you are in remission! Hi Little bear and Travler I have always had stomach issues. When I was 49, I started getting colitis symptoms. I went for a colonoscopy and got diagnosed with Ulcerated proctitis. Had a few flares on and off. A few years later, I went for another colonoscopy and now I have Colitis. My doctor is great. He had me take a steriod and 2 medications and I've been in remission ever since. I'm careful what I eat (certain foods really upset my stomach) and try to keep as much stress out of my life as I can.

Little Bear: do you take probiotics?

Little Bear: do you take probiotics? Hi michele!-
I have been taking Garden of Life Raw Probiotics and Ultima Flora Probiotic daily for the last couple of years. I switch between the two different brands hoping that I get more different strains.
There are times that I think that the probiotics help me, and then there are times that I wonder why I keep taking them.
I deal more with issues of constipation.
Or times when it seems like my digestion is slow, almost like my peristalsis of my intestines isn't working. I can feel the food getting more and more backed up in my intestines.
Have you found any good probiotics that have helped?

I take VSL#3 DS. You need a prescription for it.

One thing we must remember - if we have any kind of condition that lowers the immune function - like Lyme does - steroids are something to avoid, as they will lower the immune function even further, creating an even bigger mess than what we already had.
While there are some extreme cases where a Lyme patient does need to use steroids, it takes a very talented doctor to be able to balance the steroid's immune reducing actions with still being able to keep the body in a healing state.
The exception to this 'rule' is that if we need hydrocortisone in very low doses for adrenal issues, then some will do best on this. Just realize that there are other options for low functioning adrenals as well, that may be better choices if you are dealing with a Lyme infection, or any other infection.

Hi Little Bear,
I deal with a lot of constipation issues too. I use BD Lactinex, its over the counter, but have to ask the Pharmacy for it. It has to be refrigerated, was highly recommended by the Pharmacist. Suppose to be top of the line probotic ?? It helps me. Most the time the Pharmacy has to order it. I also eat a lot of fruits and veggies. No can stuff. I try to eat health most the times.

Sorry I’m late to the party on this one. Has anyone tried using Vitamin C for constipation? It helps me a ton. LOTS of vitamin C capsules, not the vitamin c IV.

Yes, I do use high dose vitamin C for constipation relief! It's easier on me than using anything else - a lot less cramping for me.
I can't use laxatives, so I was using only magnesium oxide, but that was rough some days! Then as I started seeing my TCM doctor, she suggested I try high dose vitamin C - then, once that issue was resolved, she wanted me to stay on the higher doses of vitamin C, and I have to tell you that was one of the better things I've done!
