What's the scoop on tinctures. Which one is more effective ? Alcohol or glycerin....I noticed glycerin tinctures at the vitamin shoppe. Just bought Ashwagandha today.... But all my other tinctures are in alcohol...

The biggest difference is your own tolerance. Some people can't use or are allergic to alcohol, and the glycerites are especially good for those under a year or the elderly that may be sensitive to alcohol effects.
For some herbs, alcohol makes a more potent tincture, but not many from what I understand - but I have a lot to learn yet.
Personally,I prefer alcohol tinctures and using fresh plants whenever feasible. Of course, I don't get to work with a lot of fresh plants though, as I have to buy many of the herbs I'm currently using.
Bottom line, if you tolerate both and feel like there's no difference in potency with the herbs you're using, then the choice is yours between alcohol tinctures and glycerites.

Actually my Astragulus is a glycerin tincture as well.....This actually tastes good. Most of my alcohol tinctures are not pleasant and Lomatium is the worst I will try an alcohol bottle next, to see of I notice a difference in potency.... I am my own walking lab test tube

One of these days, I'm going to make a glycerite, just cause I can! Lol! It makes sense that they taste better as the alcohol is a dissolvant, in a manner of speaking. It's harsh on the throat and can be hard on sensitive stomachs too.
Do let us know if you notice any difference between using tinctures made with alcohol and tinctures made with glycerine!
