I saw Hachi: A Dog's Tale about a year ago but I loved it so much that I am going to watch it again. It's supposed to be on next week on a regular channel (not cable).
Also based on a true story with Richard Gere. I highly recommend it! Warning: it may bring tears to your eyes..

I'm watching In Dubious Battle on Netflix right now. So far so good. Based on a Steinback book, so I figure u can't go wrong... Also liked a A Streetcat Named Bob! Thought I was the only one who watched it ... there was another movie that reminded me of this one, but I can't remember it right now... And yes,I've seen some of 'this is us' I don't have cable , so I only see it if I go to my friends house ( she only lives 2 houses away though, & she tapes it -) so ive gotten to see several episodes . It is really well done! I have yet to get through a "This is Us" episode with dry eyes.

I have the hardest time watching sad movies, but I can watch horror with no problem at all (usually.) Most of them make me laugh unless they're really twisted. Those I don't like. Our family just just went out to see Thor: Ragnarok last weekend. I'm not really into the superhero thing, but we see all of them because the boys and DH love them. It was ok, but I have to admit I actually fell asleep during some of it! (It's not that it wasn't exciting, it's just that I'm exhausted all of the time. You get that, I'm sure!) I really loved the movie Hidden Figures. I just watched Django Unchained (I think that's what it was called?) because it came on the TV when I was in the ozone chamber. I continued watching it when I got home. Wow, it's brutal! I've never seen a Quentin Tarantino movie before, but he's known for having some pretty "out there" movies. So. Much. Blood. It had a satisfying ending though for a movie with so much bloodshed. I love old movies too. One of my favorites is My Favorite Wife with Cary Grant. I also love Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day. It's not old, but it takes place in the 1920's and has a happy ending. I like happy endings.

Hiachi is one of my favorite movies (have the dvd) When we watch it I look over at my dog and tell him the only place he will wait for me is in the kitchen next to his food bowl with a sign that says "hurry up".... Oh, and this is "us" when we watch the movie
My wife just surprised my with a bunch of dvd's (yeah, we are old and still like dvd's) Movies that I loved when I was a kid from the early 70's....Cop movies (French connection, the seven ups, the taking of pelhem 123) and the Odd Couple tv series....Also a newer movie called Fences with Denzel Washington who is one of my favorite actors, and Sully with Tom Hanks another one of my favs....
It's almost "It's a wonderful life" season at our house....We will watch it several times from thanksgiving to Christmas.... My other favorite holiday movies are : The Family Man, Elf, Scrooge (all versions) and A Christmas Story....
The Shining, Constantine, and The Mothman Prophecies are a few of my favorite horror movies....

So over the past few days I watched 2 movies- and both were really good. And really SAD. Which wasn't my intention...
First I watched Mudbound . It was so sad I decided to cheer myself up with another movie & watched Where the Day Takes You- it was almost equally sad... but if you don't mind sad... I would watch them both again, so I guess I liked them.
But after watching them I had to really cheer myself up by watching the show Stranger Things.

I can't wait to see Hachi again (it's possible I have the DVD ~ need to organize all the DVDs I have that are still boxed from moving). Anyway I love the holiday movies and I'm sure they will show It's a Wonderful Life with Jimmy Stewart (great movie). I also like Christmas in Connecticut with Barbara Stanwyck.
My Mom likes watching The Sound of Music DVD (Julie Andrews) as it cheers her up and gets her singing!
Acres, that's great that your wife surprised you with a bunch of DVDs! Hey, don't talk about being old! I watch movies from the 1930's including Charlie Chaplin, how's that for old? LOL! And I like what you tell your dog where he will wait... that's so cute!
I haven't seen any new movies lately as I have been really busy...

Now that I've read your review, I think we'll watch it. I finished Season 9 of Heartland (the horse show) and now I have to wait for Season 10 to come to Netflix. Season 11 is currently on cable tv. Have to be careful - hubby had it on once...and I walked into the room..and shouted "Shut if off". lol. He nearly jumped out of the chair. Sheesh - I don't need any spoilers.

Next is the Allistar Sims version, then the star trek guy version, then the Bill Murray Scrooged, then It's A Wonderful Life (we will watch this 2 or 3 times before Christmas...we are old geezers, I know !), then Miracle on 34th street (both versions), then The Family Man, then Elf, then A Christmas Story.....then we will finally go to sleep.... It's the holidays ! Ho Ho Ho !!!
After that, we will embark on the wonderful experience of sitting in traffic forever trying to get to the stores Scott

This old geezer likes the original Miracle on 34th Street, It's a Wonderful Life with Jimmy Stewart, Scrooge (A Christmas Carol) with Alastair Sim, Little Women with June Allyson (not the one with Katherine Hepburn).
There was a lifetime (or was it Hallmark Channel)? that had a movie called Timepiece that was really good, waiting for them to repeat it so I can DVR it.
Last night I watched a strange movie on Netflix called The Dinner with Richard Gere, I didn't think it was good but it kept my attention...

Hi. We just watched Captain Fantastic. It's available On Demand or DVD, for those who like to play it old school. It was a poignant film. I really liked it, but it is a little on the sad side. We're planning to take our kids, 10 and 12, to see Wonder. I read the book, which is a Young Adult book, but a wonderful story. My anxiety has me a little overwhelmed right now in busy places, but I'm hoping we can make it as a family. I've been watching This Is Us, too, and binging on Netflix this past year more than I have in my entire life.

Has anyone gone to the new Star Wars movie yet? My boys are begging to see it. Sitting in a movie theater is something I can actually do with them, so that makes me happy. We watch DVDs too! I really hate commercials, so if the show we want to watch is going to be a "regular" because I'll watch it again and again, I'll sometimes just buy the DVD. Christmas movie night line up was/is: Krampus: Creepy but funny too with a happy ending. The grandmother reminds me so much of my grandmother with her German and very strongly accented English! It makes me miss her so much. My husband got that movie for St. Niklaus Day (December 6) this year. We saw it in the theater when it came out, and I was very pleased with the depiction of the legend. It's pretty scary. We Germans can be very dark! The kids liked it a lot. Auntie Mame: I just ordered this one and haven't seen it in years! I remember watching it on TV with my mum when it came on near the holidays. I loved it, so I want the kids to see it. They'll probably whine at first because it's old, but they usually end up liking the old movies we pick once they've seen them. One of my sons loves the song "Surrey with the Fringe on Top" from Oklahoma! I bought the CD for us to listen to in the car when he was little because he liked it so much. Elf: "Smiling is my favorite." This movie is so obnoxious, but how can you not love it? The kids will probably veto this because they've seen it at school so many times. A Christmas story: I'm not sure the kids have seen this yet. I've had the DVD for a year, but we never got around to seeing it. I love this so much. It just seems to be what "the good old days" would've been really like! I just started watching "Alias Grace" on Netflix. It's by Margaret Atwood who wrote THE HANDMAID'S TALE which I thought was a fascinating book and is a binge-worthy show on Hulu. It's definitely kept my attention, but I sure hope it doesn't have a sad ending.

It's definitely kept my attention, but I sure hope it doesn't have a sad ending. Ok, finished the "Alias Grace" mini-series. It's kind of creepy, involves murders, kind of leaves you hanging as to whether she's guilty or not in the end, and is based on true events. It takes a look at how awful being a poor woman in the 1800's was, so it's kind of grim. It definitely kept my attention though. I just wish it had a clearer, more satisfying ending. It did almost feel like reading a novel though, and I miss reading novels. I think my brain fog has taken that away from me. I can't seem to concentrate like I used to even though I have a bunch of books waiting for me. I used to devour them. I really hope I get some simple pleasure back in my life. TV seems to be the only one at the moment. I guess we must just take whatever entertainment we can get though right? There's nothing worse than being stuck in the house with so many things that need to be done and no way to really do them, and sleep isn't an option. At least with TV/movies I'm not completely depressed because they give me a form of escape. (I'm not sure I'd be completely depressed... I know I'd be pretty bored though.) I miss reading. I miss exercising. I miss being able to clean my house.

I just watched the 1954 film "Young at Heart" with Doris Day and Frank Sinatra. I love both of them and their music and movies. www.dorisday.net/young-at-heartI've always felt I was born in the wrong era. Or, perhaps I was around before in the 40s and 50s, since I feel such a strong connection to that time.

So you too feel you were born in the wrong age? Same here! Lol! I've been told that I was born 100 years "too late" though. I think I like the world now though. Lol! Even with all its issues, life would have been really rough (and likely short!) had I been born 100 years ago. And, its good to have you here!!! Welcome!

I've missed you on the "other" forum. In addition to you, I see two other members of whom I think highly - Girlie and DeejaVu. I'd have to agree that life would have been much tougher, had we been born 100 years ago. But, I suppose every era has had (or, will have) its problems. Selecting a profile photo was tough, as there were so many choices on Google Images. I recall you mentioning that you know the film "The Big Lebowski" and that you immediately knew that's what inspired my moniker. On the other forum, originally, my handle was "Simon Templar." I think you and I are close in age, so you'll likely recognize that handle, too. I tend to borrow names from movies and music.
